Servicing boilers and heating systems is a job preferably booked in the summer months in preparation for the heating being switched on in the Autumn. Servicing should be carried out with the care and attention needed to be fully beneficial to the customer. Different procedures need to be carried out depending on the boiler and system in question.

We like to ensure all aspects of preventative maintenance are done to minimise the risk of problems during the winter months. These may include; cleaning and testing the boiler, cleaning system filters, testing and setting of controls, checking the operation of radiators and checking sufficient water/air is in expansion tanks and vessels.

When a boiler or system fails, technical knowledge is key to getting the repair done quickly and efficiently. With over 20 years of experience as a boiler technician, holding the knowledge and experience to find a fault means we succeed where others sometimes fail.

Having the ability and confidence to dismantle a boiler and re-assemble it means we can also anticipate further problems during the process of repair.

Boiler repairs are all to often bypassed and the conclusion of a new boiler is jumped to far too quickly. The cost of a repair is likely to be significantly less than the price of a new boiler, so we like to give the customer all the facts so that they can make an informed decision.

System dirt and sludge can be problematic. New boilers have narrow waterways which can be prone to blockages. When having a new boiler installed, the best way to avoid this is to have new radiators fitted. When budgets don’t allow, the next best option is to have a power flush.

We use a powerful flushing machine with built-in magnets to pump through one radiator at a time to remove as much as the unwanted debris as possible. Black sludge (also known as magnetite) is magnetic, which is caught in the integral magnets in the machine and can be shown to the customer when we remove and clean the magnets.
